Damn, y’all…what a night! I just got done with the Youth Opening Ceremony, a massively blinged out event that kicked off the Youth Programme at the International AIDS Conference, which finally gets rolling tomorrow.
DJ Tiesto, the main man at the United Nation’s AIDS organization, and—can you dig it?!--Alicia Keys, baby! All of them were rocking the Olympic Spirit building, which is right in the middle of Dundas Square, sorta like the Times Square of Toronto…if you can catch that vibe.
I got to interview the Chairman of Levi’s, this really interesting bloke named Dr. Peter Piot (he runs UNAIDS, ya’ heard?), and everyone’s favorite piano-playin’ hottie: Alicia Keys! Luckily, I got to do the interviews with my girls, so they had my back, and we weren’t that nervous…
I walked out of the press party and straight into some bonzastic bangin’ beats and illmatic rhymes from Rochester, A.K.A. ‘Juice,’ one of Canada’s leading rappers. He dropped conscious lines on violence, whilst keeping the mood festive.
Soon the organizers were moving us up to the Fifth floor, where DJ Tiesto was spinning some deep-ass grooves, getting the dance floor rocking during a set that was short, yet sweet. We chilled on the outdoor patio, checking out the scene below, sippin’ on gin and Stella, gettin’ to know each other all a li’l better, if ya know what I mean! Guys and girls, guys and guys, girls and girls…things are definitely on the move with young people fighting AIDS, and wherever there’s young people, you know the music ain’t ever far away!
